God’s Faithfulness in Times of Loss and Persecution

Amid the devastation of war, Katya and her son Oleg face unimaginable grief. Yet, through God’s provision and the support of the Church and DOHI, they continue to find hope.

This faith story was shared with us by Pastor Alex:

“In the city of Kramatorsk (Ukraine), Katya, a single mother, and her son Oleg are grappling with an unimaginable loss. Katya’s father, Sergey, a doctor, volunteered to serve as a military medic at the front lines in Donbass. Tragically, Sergey was killed while defending his country in one of the most dangerous areas of the war.

“How do we continue after the loss of a loved one?” Katya wonders, her heart heavy with grief.

Little Oleg, too, struggles with the loss in his own way. He constantly asks, “Where is grandfather?” His innocent question deepens the grief and tears in their home, echoing the pain that lingers in their hearts.

One day, little Oleg saw a car pass by that resembled his grandfather’s.

“Grandfather, grandfather!” he cried out, his voice filled with hope. But the car didn’t stop.

“Why didn’t grandfather stop and come to me?” Oleg asked.

How do you explain to a small child that his grandfather is gone forever, killed by a war ignited by an evil dictator? How do you help a child cope with the reality of loss, when everything around them is so uncertain?

Through all of this, Katya and Oleg are finding a glimmer of hope.
In the face of such deep sorrow, God’s provision is evident. The support of the Church and DOHI has been a lifeline for Katya and her son. Though the journey is difficult, they continue to find strength in their faith and in the hands of those who have reached out to help them survive.”

Pastor Alex adds:
“Thank you for all your help to families suffering because of this war. Without your support, they cannot survive. Your help is a reminder that God is with us, even in the darkest moments.”
